Range won a second grant from Osmosis to further develop a major aspect of security in the Cosmos ecosystem: IBC rate limits.
These limits can be an incredibly useful line of defense, which is particularly important as the security risks of blockchains grow with the complexity bridges and interoperability bring about. Rate limits essentially cap the amount of {{WHAT}}, which can decrease the damage of an attack.
The Cosmos ecosystem, in particular, needs to figure out how to best use IBC rate limits, given how complex and interconnected the different application and consumer chains are.
Range has been granted the opportunity to do just that. In the next month, our team will deliver three key projects to boost the effectiveness of rate limits in Cosmos:
Public observability dashboards to monitor the real-time state of Osmosis pools and IBC flows
A suite for monitoring, alerting and anomaly detection of Osmosis’s IBC rate limits.
A research report on how to improve and extend the functionality of Osmosis IBC rate limits.
The latter two projects will significantly contribute to the Osmosis community conversation around how to implement rate limits. The debate is currently focused on trade-offs between security and user experience. Range’s work can bring data to better ground the discussion.
